Went to my first Rock (or would it be considered Pop?) concert.
Was to get together with some friends yesterday to see an anime convention (Anime Festival Asia 2008), We got there, at different times due to a number of us having prior commitments in the morning.
We looked around a bit, left for a late lunch, came back in to look some more. It was smaller than I'd expected, with a lot of empty space in some corners. Overall it was interesting.
Noticed on my way in that the performing artist at the post convention concert was May'n, the singing voice of Sheryl Nome in Macross Frontier. I didn't know she was in Singapore (didn't know about the convention until the last minute actually) so it was a pleasent surprise.
Anyway, after a while two of us got tickets -VIP tickets- to the concert (I wasn't one of them incidentally). And about half an hour before the concert, one of the two concert goers had to drop out and left the ticket floating in the air. I was the only other person who had shown interest so it went to me.
I'd heard about an autograph session after the concert so I figured I ought to get one. The only problem was that I didn't really have anything appropriate with me for signing. In hindsight I could've gone hunting for something that could take a signature (I _was_ at an anime convention... ^ ^), but I decided on another course of action instead.
I went to the back corner, took out a sketch pad my best friend had given me and proceeded to draw/sketch a portrait of May'n from the convention map/event calendar. I got it done in about half-an-hour though I felt it looked a bit rough towards the end. With fifteen minutes to go, we got to the VIP premium area and waited for the concert to start.
It was a short concert, but I enjoyed it. I think the acoustics was bad because it was held in a convention hall rather than a concert hall. The pre-fab booths were rattling from the speakers which I think were overenthusiastically turned up. The singer really liked the crowd to join in her concerts, but we (country-wise due to education and other local factors) tend to be a rather leaden bunch (me included actually ^ ^). She was singing her heart out to infuse some enthusiasm into us and actually succeeded to some extent.
Anyway, after the concert we found out that there were a hundred pre-signed boards were to be given out. To Diamond VIPs. They were in the area infront of the VIP premium area. No personal items were allowed to be signed though.
We stayed for a while and I actually recognized two people in the Diamond VIP area. We joined up with the others who didn't stay for the concert and got some drinks from a nearby Seven-Eleven before heading for home.
Pretty cool overall, too bad about the autograph part. I also found out after I got home that of the 'normal' VIPs, twenty were to be selected for an autograph session. We didn't know about it, or when it was to be held. Ah well, such is life. =/
Still got the sketch. Am gonna put it up on Deviant Art soon. Drop some comments. =)
